Addressing the ransomware threat: Cyber expert Jonathan Levin on "Intelligence Matters"

Morell and Levin discuss the growing, global threat from ransomware and how criminal gangs' tactics have evolved to target a variety of vulnerable sectors. Levin also explains how cryptocurrencies and blockchain work, and how both can help investigators trace the origins of illicit financial activity.  

On the global growth of ransomware: "I think it's important to understand all of ransomware as a business and in fact, a lot of cybercrime that's not ransomware you can think of really as a business. And so ransomware is just one of the ways that cyber criminals are actually monetizing the access that they get into people's networks, into corporations, et cetera."
