‘Additional charge’ appointments on the rise for key posts: Is govt shying away from permanent hires?

Delays in full capacity appointments and a rise in “additional charges” raise the question: is the Government of India shying away from full time appointments?

The Centre on Tuesday handed Special CP Balaji Srivastava, an IPS officer of the 1988 batch, the additional charge of Commissioner of Delhi Police. The notification issued by the Union government said, "Balaji Srivastava will hold the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Delhi in addition to his regular charge until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier."
