Former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy's plea to restrain arrest in POCSO case rejected by High Court in Vijayawada.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on December 16, Monday, turned down a plea filed by YSRCP former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy to restrain the police from arresting him in a case registered against him under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act in Tirupati district recently.
The case has been adjourned to December 24 for further hearing, with a direction to the police to file a counter affidavit by that date.
Mr. Bhaskar Reddy has been claiming that he was implicated in false cases under the POCSO and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as part of vindictive politics of the ruling coalition for allegedly spreading misinformation that a 14-year-old girl from Yerravaripalem village in Tirupati district was raped.
He prayed to the High Court to quash the FIR, saying that he neither spoke nor did anything that amounted to assassinating the girl’s character and that the police extracted a statement from the girl’s father under pressure, but to no avail as the court refused to concede his plea at this stage.
