Police Commissioner Bagchi reports 87 property offenders arrested, ₹89.33 lakh recovered in November; emphasizes crime prevention measures.
As many as 87 property offenders were arrested in 74 cases and property worth ₹89.33 lakh was recovered by the police in the city in November, said Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi. He was speaking at a ‘property recovery mela’ for the month of November 2024.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Bagchi said that in November, 104 property offence cases were reported. In this connection, special teams used technical methods, investigated the cases from all angles and detected 73 cases, he said. As many as 87 offenders were arrested and property worth ₹45.83 lakh was recovered. This apart, as many as 290 stolen mobile phones worth ₹43.50 lakh was also recovered during November, he said.
The Police Commissioner said that of the 73 detected cases, five cases were robbery, two cases were house break-ins by day, 20 cases were HBs by night, five were snatching cases, one was a theft of an auto-rickshaw, one case relating to the theft of a car, and 22 cases of theft of motorcycles.
“Every month, the property recovery has been rising. During September and October, the recovery was ₹86.24 lakh and ₹88.22 lakh respectively. In November, the recovery was ₹89.33 lakh,”, he said, appreciating the crime wing police.
Mr. Bagchi also said that as part of the crime preventive measures, in November, as many as 391 CCTV cameras were installed across the city. Since July, around 8,000 CCTV cameras were installed, he said. About 142 crime awareness meetings were organised by the crime wing officers, who educated the public about the types of crimes, criminals, importance of CCTV cameras, the benefit of having Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), etc. Police teams conducted special patrolling in crime prone areas both in the day and in the night, he said.
The Commissioner urged public to utilise Chatbot/CEIR in case of stolen mobile phones, and said that till date, 4,054 mobile phones worth ₹6.08 crore were recovered. To lodge complaints, people can use Chatbot number 9490617916 or the CEIR Portal, he said.
