8,678 students to benefit from mid-day meal scheme in Kurnool district

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary launches 'Dokka Sitamma Mid-Day Meal' scheme for 1.48 lakh students in government junior colleges.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand said that more than 1.48 lakh students of 475 government junior colleges will be provided nutritious food under the ‘Dokka Sitamma Mid-Day Meal’ scheme.
The Chief Secretary on Saturday launched the mid-day meals for intermediate students and had lunch with the students of Government Junior College, at B Camp in Kurnool. He expressed his happiness in being a part of the scheme.
Mr. Vijayanand said that the government would spend ₹28 crore on the scheme in the 2025-26 fiscal, while ₹86 crore in the next financial year. By providing nutritious food, students will become mentally and physically strong and perform well in their academics, he added.
Meanwhile, in Kurnool district, 8,678 students of 23 government junior colleges will benefit from the scheme. He said that out of the 475 junior colleges in which the scheme will be implemented, 398 are already serving mid-day meals.
Mr. Vijayanand said that the menu for the mid-day meal will be different every day. Boiled eggs, ragi malt, chikkis and other nutritious food will be served to ensure that the students get necessary protein, fibre and carbohydrates.
District Collector P. Ranjit Basha, Joint Collector Dr. B. Navya, Adoni Sub-Collector Mourya Bharadwaj and others, also had lunch with the students. The Chief Secretary later interacted with the students and asked them about the quality of food being served, and whether the teachers were taking classes regularly.
