72-year-old farmer dies in elephant attack in Chikkamagaluru

The local people had staged protests demanding the government of Karnataka capture and relocate all wild elephants roaming in the area.
A wild elephant trampled a farmer to death at Madabur in N.R. Pura taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka on December 19. The deceased has been identified as K.K. Aliayaz, 72.
The farmer and his son were looking for a buffalo that was missing. On encountering a wild elephant, the son climbed up a tree to save himself, but his father could not outrun the elephant.
Following the incident, the local police and Forest Department officials reached the village.
This is the second death due to an elephant attack in the district in the last 20 days.
Earlier, Umesh, a resident of Seethur in N.R. Pura taluk, died in an elephant attack.
