At least five people were killed and around eight have been injured after a speeding truck hit a loader tempo on the Ahirwan flyover of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur in the wee hours of Sunday.
This is the second major accident in Kanpur in a single night within six hours.
According to Chakeri Police Station Incharge Shailendra Singh, “A speeding truck hit a loader tempo on the Ahirwan flyover. Five people have lost their lives and around 7-8 people are injured.”
The family in the tempo was heading to Vindhyachal for a family function. The injured family members have been admitted to Kashiram Hospital.
A heavy police force is present on the spot. A rescue operation is going on.
In another accident in Kanpur on Saturday, at least 27 people, including 11 children and 11 women, died as a tractor-trolley overturned on the road. At least 30 others were injured who are being treated at a hospital.
The tractor-trolley, carrying over 50 pilgrims, was on its way to Ghatampur from Fatehpur where the passengers attended a "mundan" ceremony at the Chandrika Devi temple. It met with an accident after it overturned and fell into a pond near Bhadeuna village, located within the Saar police station limits. The police and rescue teams reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.
