7 missing after overloaded boat capsizes in Brahmaputra in Assam
At least seven people, including five children, went missing after an overloaded boat capsized in the river Brahmaputra in Assam's Barpeta district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the entire family of Raham Ali, numbering around 27, were returning from a wedding. Overcrowding and strong winds caused the boat to capsize, authorities said.
Eyewitnesses who were enjoying the view of the river bank saw a crowded boat sinking and rushed to rescue the people aboard the vessel.
NDRF and SDRF teams arrived at the spot and are searching for the boat and the missing people.
More details are awaited.
