4 lanes abruptly turning 2 on flyover near Mumbai sparks ridicule, alarm

A debate has erupted in Mira-Bhayander over a flyover where a four-lane section abruptly narrows to two lanes, with the Congress calling it an engineering failure while the MMRDA insists the design was planned to ease local traffic bottlenecks.
A newly constructed flyover in Mira-Bhayander, part of Mumbai’s Metro Line 9 project, has sparked controversy after a social media post showed a four-lane section abruptly narrowing to two lanes. The Congress party slammed the change, warning it endangers commuters. On the other hand, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the city’s urban development body, defended the design as "intentional," stating that it "enables smooth crossing of one of the busiest junctions in the Mira–Bhayander region while accommodating on-ground constraints."
Sharing an aerial view of the project, Congress took a sarcastic dig at the Devendra Fadnavis government, calling it "Maharashtra’s engineering miracle." "A four-lane bridge suddenly turned into a two-lane one," the party wrote on X.
They alleged that such infrastructure decisions have become common under the current government and accused it of lacking accountability for public safety.
"Whether it’s Maharashtra or Madhya Pradesh, such deadly 'miracles' have become common under BJP governments," the Congress said. The party argued that these decisions have caused distress and fatalities, adding, "Whether people are distressed or losing their lives in accidents, the government doesn’t seem to care - there is neither responsibility nor accountability."
MMRDA responded by explaining the engineering rationale and stressed that the transition is not an error.
"As per planning, the flyover has been designed with two lanes for Bhayander East and future connecting two lanes for Bhayander West. Since the Bhayander East arm comes first along the alignment, the 4-lane configuration presently transitions into 2 lanes. The remaining two lanes on the outer side are planned as part of the future extension towards Bhayander West across the Western Railway line," the MMRDA said in response to a social media post by 'Gems of Mira Bhayandar.'

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.
