4 charred to death, 1 critical as oil tanker explodes in Odisha’s Nayagarh

An oil tanker exploded after plunging into the Kusumi River in Odisha's Nayagarh in the wee hours of Saturday. Four people were burnt alive while one was critically injured in the accident.
At least four people were charred to death while one was critically injured after a fuel laden tanker skid off the bridge and exploded in Odisha’s Nayagarh in the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Nayaj, Dipu Khatua, Samir Nayak and Chandan Khatua. All four of them were in the Nayagarh area.
As per the reports, the fuel tanker was enroute to Sambalpur from Paradip. It was around 1.45 AM that the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the fence of the bridge. After the collision, the tanker fell off the bridge, plunging into the Kusumi River.
Subsequently, locals reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, during the ongoing rescue operation, the tanker which was fully loaded with oil exploded, killing four people on the spot.
Of the deceased, two of them were locals who had come to help, while the driver of the tanker and the helper also died in the accident.
On being informed about the mishap, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation, following which dead bodies were recovered with the help of the local people.
