34 Char Dham pilgrims die in 2 weeks, officials cite ‘heart attack’

According to reports, 34 pilgrims have died since the start of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
34 people have died on their way to the temples since the start of the Char Dham yatra on May 3.
With an unusual rush of pilgrims coming to Char Dham yatra this year, the Uttarakhand government had earlier issued an advisory for the pilgrims and asked them to get themselves medically examined before they start the arduous trek to the Himalayan temples.
As many as 18 pilgrims died of cardiac arrest on the way to the temples.
On the unusually high number of deaths of pilgrims, Chief Secretary S S Sandhu said that most of them had died of heart attacks or post-Covid medical complications, not due to poor arrangements.
With no pandemic restrictions in place, the state government has also made it mandatory for pilgrims to register in advance for the pilgrimage.
