Three BJP MLAs, accused of hurling shoes at the Odisha Assembly Speaker on Saturday, were suspended for the remaining periods of the session in the state assembly.
Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs were on Saturday suspended for the remaining periods of the session in the Odisha Assembly. Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro ordered the suspension after shoes were allegedly hurled at him following protests over the alleged arbitrary passage of some bills in the House. On Saturday morning, a ruckus erupted in the Odisha Assembly after the three BJP MLAs -- Jayanarayan Mishra, Mohan Charan Majhi and Bishnu Sethi -- allegedly hurled shoes at Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro as a mark of protest. They also alleged that Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill was passed in the House without debate on the same. The decision to suspend the three MLAs was taken after Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro reviewed the video of the incident that took place in the state assembly.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
