Hamsadhwani's NRI Festival showcases Indian art and culture, fostering cultural ambassadors through music, dance, and drama.
The 29th NRI Festival of Music and Dance 2024 and the 35th Annual Festival of Music, Dance and Drama 2024-25 organised by Hamsadhwani began here on Wednesday.
Akhila Srinivasan, director, Shriram Life Insurance Co Ltd., said, Indian art and culture is unique because of the main element ‘bhakthi’. Hamsadhwani has brought in one of the greatest initiatives by organising the NRI festival. “Many of our youngsters learn music and dance and when they settle abroad, they are able to propagate our art and culture. They are like our cultural ambassadors. This is perhaps the only sabha which conducts an exclusive NRI festival,” she said.
Ramya Ranganathan Srinivas, founder of YADA and Bharat Heritage Organisation, U.S., said, she has witnessed first-hand the transformative power of art in the hands of youth. Music and dance are not just entertainment, but they are living expressions of our heritage, culture and values.
R. Sundar, secretary of Hamsadhwani, said the sabha was started in 1990 and their platform encourages all art and artists. Of the nearly 75 artists who will perform this season in their sabha, 46 of them are NRIs from various countries, including Singapore, United States and United Kingdom.
Suresh Kumar Chakala, director, Kalakshetra Foundation, also spoke.
