A 23-year-old man was murdered following a quarrel on his birthday on Sunday (February 15, 2026) at Thirunindravur in Avadi. The police have arrested two men in connection with the murder.
The police identified the victim as N. Mukendran, 23, of Periyar Nagar, who was a painter. He had reportedly been celebrating his birthday with a friend on Sunday night and had consumed alcohol. While returning home, he encountered S. Vignesh, 28, a milk vendor from the same locality, the police said. According to investigators, Mukendran and Vignesh had an altercation at a local playground about a year ago, and started arguing when they met on Sunday.
During the exchange, Vignesh is said to have summoned his associate, B. Ravishankar, 26. The police said that Vignesh then attacked Mukendran with a sickle, inflicting severe injuries to his head and body. Mukendran collapsed on the spot, and the accused fled.
The Thiruninravur police rushed to the scene and sent the body to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The police arrested Vignesh and Ravishankar on Monday, and they were later remanded in judicial custody.
