According to a release, intensive cleaning was carried out on roads, inner streets, bus stops, parks, burial grounds, flyovers, and areas beneath flyovers and subways. Garbage, construction and debris (C&D) waste, wall posters, and unauthorised advertisement banners were removed.
According to the press release, Mayor R. Priya launched a construction debris clearance drive on January 7 in seven zones: Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, and Adyar. The first phase covered these areas until January 16. From January 17, the operation expanded to all 15 zones, including Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Ambattur, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Perungudi, and Sholinganallur.
The debris was collected in the designated locations for dumping C&D waste, before being transported to Perungudi and Kodungaiyur dumpyards, the release stated.
