
2021 monsoon in Delhi breaks one record after another; more in store

The 2021 monsoon is on course to become the second-wettest monsoon ever in Delhi by the time it withdraws. The highest ever rainfall in Delhi was witnessed in 1933 when a total of 1,420.3 mm rainfall was recorded.
The monsoon this year has dumped a bounteous 1,170.7 mm of rainfall in Delhi till Thursday evening, the highest since 1964 and the third-highest since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) started collecting data.
Delhi's September rainfall has breached the 400-mm mark. Till 5:30 pm on Thursday, Delhi recorded a total of 404.1 mm rainfall in the month of September as observed by the Safdarjung observatory, informed IMD.
