Union Minister Kumaraswamy ensures safe return of Karnataka students from Jammu amid tense situation, prioritizing children's safety.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday facilitated the safe return of 13 students from Karnataka studying in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.
The students were brought to Delhi from Jammu on Sunday, and they are on their way to their homes in Karnataka, a note from Mr. Kumaraswamy’s office stated. The students were being brought to safety in the light of the tense situation in Jammu, and based on directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it added.
It all began when the parents of one of the students, Harshith, residents of Tagachagere village in Channapatna taluk, approached Janata Dal (Secular) youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy seeking help to bring the students back home safely, the note said.
Following the directions of Mr. Kumaraswamy, the students were brought by a bus with security to a railway station, and they reached Delhi on Sunday afternoon. “The officials of the Steel Ministry are looking after the needs of the students and will be ensuring that the students reach their homes safely. Children’s safety is the priority of the government,” the note said.
“We were extremely anxious and confused when tensions rose in Srinagar. With the help of the Union government, we have reached a safe place. We thank Mr. Kumaraswamy for extending all help to us,” Harshith said in a statement. Another student, Bhagyashree Prasad, said Mr. Nikhil Kumaraswamy and Mr. Kumaraswamy took personal interest in bringing them back to safety and all of them were returning home.
