12 persons killed as SUV hits parked truck near Chikkaballapur

Twelve persons died and one was injured when an SUV rammed into a parked tanker on the outskirts of Chikkaballapur, near Bengaluru, on October 26 morning.
The deceased — three women, eight men and and a child — were heading from Andhra Pradesh towards Bengaluru when the driver failed to notice the parked tanker and crashed into it. Due to the impact, the SUV was mangled. Passers-by, along with the police, struggled to pull out the victims who were then shifted to a hospital.
Superintendent of Police D.L. Nagesh said, “The accident has taken place near Chikkaballapur on NH 44 (Bengaluru-Hyderabad) highway today morning at 7.15 a.m. A Tata Sumo bearing number AP02 CH 1021 has hit a truck bearing number NL01Q1954 from behind. Twelve persons in the Tata Sumo died on the spot. One person is seriously injured, and is being treated in Chikkaballapur general hospital,” said D. L. Nagesh, SP, Chikkaballapur.
The deceased are yet to be identified, sources said.
