Members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Pathugappu Sangam celebrated the 101st birthday of A. Sivaprakasam, a farmer from Aachalpudhur village near Sirkazhi, honouring his contributions to agriculture and natural farming.
Mr. Sivaprakasam, who studied up to Class V and began as an agricultural labourer, now manages 15 acres of farmland and advocates organic farming. “I always walk wherever I go and never take help for climbing stairs. My body feels a little tired, but my mind is strong. I hope to live another five years without issues,” he told The Hindu.
His son S. Thanga Sabha said the family engages in organic farming and value-added production, with Mr. Sivaprakasam still handling farm accounts. He has two sons and two daughters, along with 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The veteran farmer, whose wife died 12 years ago, remains an inspiration to young farmers, who celebrated his milestone birthday by cutting a cake and appreciated his dedication to agriculture and simple living.
