The operator of a front-end loader died after being pinned underneath their vehicle at B.C.'s Cypress Mountain on Tuesday, according to police.
West Vancouver Police Sgt. Mark McLean said that the "industrial accident" happened around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
McLean said the front-end loader — which is also known as a scoop loader or bucket loader — overturned and the operator was pinned underneath.
"Unfortunately, the operator did not survive, and the coroner is on scene," he said in an email.
Police have not released the name of the deceased until they notify next of kin. McLean said that police would continue to investigate the incident in conjunction with B.C.'s workplace regulator, WorkSafeBC.
A WorkSafeBC spokesperson confirmed in an email that the agency is looking into the incident.
"Our investigation team has been notified and a WorkSafeBC officer is attending the scene," they wrote.
The Cypress Mountain Ski Area — also colloquially referred to as the Cypress Bowl — is one of the many ski resorts on Metro Vancouver's North Shore.
It is located in West Vancouver and usually opens for the winter skiing season at the end of November.
