Yankees’ Devin Williams holds on for save but just barely
NY Post
ANAHEIM, Calif. — For the first time since being removed from the closer’s role, Devin Williams took the mound in the ninth inning Tuesday for a save attempt.
He lived to tell about it, just barely.
Entering to protect a three-run lead, Williams gave up a pair of runs and brought the winning run to the plate before getting the final out that secured the Yankees’ 3-2 win over the Angels.
“You just keep going,” Williams said. “The game’s not over, we didn’t lose yet, so it’s pretty simple.
“At the end of the day, we won. That’s all that matters.”
With a man on first and two runs already in, Williams went 3-0 to pinch-hitter Logan O’Hoppe, who had the green light and swung at a fastball that he popped up into foul territory to end the game.

Suddenly, someone had hit a rewind button and everyone had been transported back seven months. It was early spring instead of late fall, it was broiling hot outside the arena walls and not freezing cold. Everyone was back at TD Garden. There were 19,156 frenzied fans on their feet begging for blood, poised for the kill.
