
'Yaas' to cross Odisha-Bengal coast as a very severe cyclonic storm: RMD

'Yaas' will cross Odisha-Bengal coast around 12pm on May 26 as a very severe cyclonic storm. After the impact, heavy rainfall is likely in East and West Midnapore, South 24-Parganas. The 'very severe cylone' is then likely to move towards Jharkhand.
A deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm 'Yaas' and is likely to turn "severe" in the next 24 hours before it crosses Odisha and West Bengal coasts on May 26 (Wednesday), as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rajeev Banerjee, director, Regional Meterological Department (RMD) said: "As on 11am on May 24, the deep depression has turned into a cyclone called 'Yaas' and it is located at East Central Bay, which is 620km away from Balasore and 610km south of Digha in East Midnapore. It will keep moving north north westerly and turn into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours."
