World Cup 2011: I was not under pressure, I believed that I can win the title for my country- Gautam Gambhir

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has opened up on the ‘pressure factor’ that was in play during the 2011 World Cup final, 10 years ago, and said that he was confident that he could win it for the country. 

Ten years ago, an entire nation weaved a dream. A dream to win a second World Cup for India under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, who had already won a T20 title for the nation. Gautam Gambhir was one of the biggest forces that turned the dream into reality for India on April 2, 2011. According to Gambhir, he was under no pressure during his match-winning knock of 97 off 122, against Sri Lanka because he knew he could win the title for his team. “See this question has been asked to me many a times, probably thousands of time if I was under pressure or I was not under pressure. Honestly, I did not have that pressure because if I didn’t have that belief that I can win the World Cup for my country, I should not have been part of that squad,” Gambhir said.
