Algonquin Public School in Woodstock, Ont., is closed on Monday due to an active police investigation in the area.
Woodstock Police said in a news release that they responded to the area of Springbank Avenue and Devonshire Avenue early Monday morning for report of a possible person with a weapon.
Police have since cleared the area, but say that the investigation is ongoing. Police are requesting that the public avoid the area and follow the road closures in place.
The board said students and staff will transition to virtual learning for the day and advised parents to check their child's digital platform for more details at the beginning of the school day.
More updates will be provided as they become available.
P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is looking for 50 substitute bus drivers, and it'll be recruiting at three job fairs on Saturday, June 8. The job fairs are located at the Atlantic Superstore in Montague, Royalty Crossing in Charlottetown, and the bus parking lot of Three Oaks Senior High in Summerside. All three run from 9 a.m. until noon. Dave Gillis, the director of transportation and risk management for the Public Schools Branch, said the number of substitute drivers they're hiring isn't unusual. "We are always looking for more. Our drivers tend to have an older demographic," he said.
