Woodstock Museum murder mystery draws on real-life tale of Victorian killer Reginald Birchall

A Halloween event put on by the Woodstock Museum invites participants to solve a murder mystery based on the real-life crimes of Reginald Birchall, a con man and killer whose 1890 murder trial put the community in the international spotlight.
Held on the second floor of Woodstock's Old Town Hall, the court case made headlines across the British Empire because of Birchall, a British aristocrat who, because he had become mired in debt, resorted to scheming and skullduggery to get ahead.
The museum's education officer, Kerrie Gill, spoke about the event and told Birchall's story to CBC Radio One's Afternoon Drive on Thursday.

The event is presented by actors from Live History, a theatre company that brings local history to life. Participants in the event will explore the historic building and interact with the characters as they work together to piece together clues and solve the mystery.
