Women's World Cup 2022: Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-final of the tournament as they registered their 5th successive win - a last-over thrilling victory over India in a successful chase of 278.
Australia continued their unbeaten run at the Women's World Cup 2022 as they edged past India in a last-over thriller by 6 wickets in Auckland. The 6-time champions rode on Meg Lanning's 98 and Alyssa Healy's 72 to gun down a stiff target of 278 runs in the final over.
India fought back with Lanning's wickets towards the end after a rain delay but Mithali Raj's side were not able to hold their nerves when Australia needed 8 runs in the final over.
With the victory, Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals. They have won all their 5 matches at the World Cup so far.
On the other hand, India are at the 4th spot after 3 defeats in 5 matches.
MITHALI, HARMANPREET FIFTIES IN VAIN
Earlier, Half-centuries from skipper Mithali Raj, Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur steered India to 277 for seven in their crucial Women's World Cup game against Australia here on Saturday.
Mithali (68 off 96) and Yastika (59 off 83) steadied the innings with a 130-run for the third wicket after India lost openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma cheaply.
