Women’s T20 Challenge 2022: Harmanpreet Kaur’s 71 powers Supernovas to 150 against Velocity

Harmanpreet Kaur took charge after the Supernovas lost three wickets inside the first four overs. She also stitched together a crucial partnership with Taniya Bhatia.

Supernovas, on Tuesday, May 24, scored 150 in their Women's T20 Challenge 2022 match against the Velocity at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.

After electing to field first, Velocity got off to a stupendous start courtesy of a brilliant opening spell from Kate Cross. The right-arm pacer got the prized wickets of Priya Punia and Harleen Deol in quick succession. Deol looked ominous against the Trailblazers, but couldn’t cross the single-figure score on Tuesday.

Deepti Sharma delivered the body after getting rid of the dangerous Deandra Dottin. With the Velocity three down inside the first four overs, Taniya Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur took charge. The duo stitched together a handy 81-run partnership for the fourth wicket and got the Supernovas’ innings back on track.

The duo were separated after Bhatia was run out after she scored 36 runs off 32 balls with three fours. Harmanpreet, on the other hand, looked in decent touch against Smriti Mandhana and Co. and she didn’t disappoint against the Velocity as well. The swashbuckling batter scored his half-century off 42 balls and looked set for a final flurry.

Kaur scored 71 runs off 51 balls with seven fours and three sixes, guiding her team to a respectable score of 150/5 in 20 overs. She got out while trying to take left-arm spinner Radha Yadav to the cleaners.

Sune Luus smashed Deepti for a four in the last over and made sure that the Supernovas touched the 150-run mark. Cross was arguably the standout bowler for the Velocity after she struck with the early blows. Ayobonga Khaka, Sneh Rana and Maya Sonawane couldn’t make a breakthrough.

Khaka, who was in impressive form in the Women’s T20 Challenge and Fairbreak Invitation, conceded runs at an economy rate of 9:30.
