A 27-year-old woman is facing charges following a flight from police on Sunday night that saw her crash into a snowbank.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says an officer tried to initiate a traffic stop on Logy Bay Road, near the intersection with Harding Road, around 11:30 p.m.
"The driver decided not to stop and accelerated to speeds over 115 km/hr in the 50 km/hr zone," reads an excerpt from the force's overnight report. "Police did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety."
The officer continued north on Logy Bay Road and found the vehicle ditched in a snowbank. The driver was trying to get out of the vehicle when the officer arrived.
She was arrested and taken to the lockup. The 27-year-old is now charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
Her vehicle was also impounded.
