A 80-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle being driven by another 80-year-old woman at the downtown intersection of College and Bay streets, Toronto police say.
The victim was crossing College Street around 11:45 a.m., when a dark purple Honda turned right to go westbound College Street, police said.
The woman had been pinned underneath the vehicle and was freed by police and paramedics before being rushed to hospital, where she died.
Police said the driver remained at the scene.
Roads were shut down in the area for the investigation and are expected to remain closed for some time.
Police are asking drivers to be more cautious with the snow on the ground.
"When there's snow on the ground, take more time to get where you're going. Watch your speed, drive according to the conditions," said Const. David Hopkinson. "Pedestrians are out on the sidewalks and they're crossing the streets."
The TTC said its vehicles are detouring around the area.
Officials are asking local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident to contact investigators.
The death marks the fourth pedestrian fatality on Toronto's roads in 2022, according to City of Toronto statistics.

Sarnia City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning to respond to social media comments made by Coun. Bill Dennis, who criticized city spending on a new mural by Indigenous artist Kennady Osborne as “virtue signalling by woke politicians” — then made a series of comments in response to a reply from Aamjiwnaang Chief Janelle Nahmabin that some have characterized as unprofessional and aggressive.
