Emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle crash around 2:35 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Iona Road.
One person, identified only as a 64-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital. Four others were hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Earlier in the day, OPP reported on social media platform X that one person was pronounced dead at the scene, and four people suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious in nature.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed from Currie and Union roads for several hours for investigation, but reopened to traffic around 1 p.m.
