Another winter storm is expected to hit parts of Newfoundland Tuesday, and could bring snowfall rates as high as five centimetres per hour in some areas.
A yellow winter storm warning is in place from Environment Canada for eastern and southern portions of Newfoundland for Tuesday. CBC N.L. Meteorologist Ashley Brauweiler said parts of the island could see between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow.
Snow is expected to start early Tuesday morning on the southwest coast of Newfoundland, which will travel across the island over the course of Tuesday.
"The snowfall rates will start to ramp up, especially as we get toward, say, the 2 to 3 [p.m.] timeframe for the metro area," Brauweiler said, adding parts of the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas will likely see the most snow.
"We're talking about the potential to see two to five, or more, centimetres falling in an hour, and that will happen from pretty much two o' clock to about seven o' clock."
Environment Canada says the snow could be paired with winds gusting between 60 and 80 km/h on Tuesday.
In Labrador, cold warnings remain in place for Monday night as Labrador West through central Labrador could see wind chills between -40 and -46 C overnight.
Brauweiler said those warnings are expected to lift on Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to rise across the province in the coming days.
