Will show no mercy to history-sheeters enjoying caste, religious backing: Commissioner of Police

Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Santosh Kumar who assumed office here on Friday has asked his subordinates to show no mercy to history-sheeters orchestrating their nefarious activities under caste and religious backing.

 Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Mr. Santosh Kumar, a 2002-batch Indian Police Service Officer, said police officers have been asked to act tough against drug smugglers and peddlers. “Besides arresting them, the police will smash the entire drug network in this region. Those who continue this illegal activity will be detained under the Goondas Act,” he said.

“History-sheeters unleashing panic and terror among the public by inciting caste and religious sentiments will have to pay hefty price for their act. Besides swiftly and impartially initiating action against these troublemakers, steps will be taken to ensure their detention under the Goondas Act. Crime against women and the children would curbed. In short, police will ensure a peaceful life for every resident of the city by enforcing law and order,” Mr. Santosh Kumar said.

 When he was informed about perennial traffic congestion in the city due to traffic rule violations, Mr. Santosh Kumar said he would personally inspect the problematic points to provide effective and lasting solution.

 During his meeting with the police officers of Tirunelveli City immediately after assuming office, Mr. Santosh Kumar exhorted them to execute all pending arrest warrants by nabbing the criminals, who have gone underground, and expeditiously complete the investigation in the cases registered in their police stations so as to file charge-sheets on early note.

 Mr. Santosh Kumar had served as ASP, Tenkasi, on entering the service and also in Kanniyakumari, Karur, Namakkal and Nagapattinam districts on being promoted as Superintendent of Police. Upon promotion as Deputy Inspector General of Police, he has served as Joint Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai (West) and DIG, Villupuram Range.

 After serving in the police headquarters in Chennai as Inspector General of Police (Administration) and IG, North Zone, Mr. Santosh Kumar has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City.
