India tour of West Indies: Rohit Sharma, and Dinesh Karthik combined with the bowlers to help India hammer West Indies by 68 runs in the first T20I in Trinidad.

India displayed their rejuvenated brand of aggressive T20I cricket on Friday to hammer an insipid West Indies by 68 runs in the first T20I at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad and take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series. Chasing 191, West Indies managed just 122 runs in 20 overs as their hopeless batting performance was on display.

Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (2/22 in 4 overs), Ravindra Jadeja (1/26 in 4 overs) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/26 in 4 overs) got wickets at regular intervals to restrict the hosts at 122 for eight in 20 overs.

Arshdeep Singh (2/24 in 4 overs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/11 in 2 overs), despite some initial pasting, got their share of breakthroughs. Hence, a below-par show by top-order, save Rohit, didn't have telling consequences on India.

Skipper Rohit Sharma roared back to form while Dinesh Karthik provided the final flourish as India posted a competitive 190 for six against the West Indies. Rohit provided glimpses of his vintage self with some breathtaking shots en route to a 64 off 44 balls.

Karthik made sure that India finished off with a strong total with a blazing, unbeaten 19-ball 41 cameo, as West Indies bowlers leaked 52 runs in the last four overs. On a track where there was slow spongy bounce, most of the top-order batters were dismissed playing poor shots, even as the skipper carried on at the other end for his 27th half-century in this format.
