Why the solutions to the Rangers’ biggest questions only create more problems
NY Post
The endless offseason for the Rangers is coming to an end.
Next week, rookie camp commences ahead of the traditional two games against the Flyers freshmen in Allentown, Pa., and the following week, the varsity takes the ice for its first camp under incoming head coach Mike Sullivan.
Last season ended with a 4-0 victory in the April 18 finale over Tampa Bay. Peter Laviolette was dismissed as head coach and replaced on May 2 by long-ago assistant Sullivan, who won consecutive Stanley Cup championships in his first two years behind the Penguins’ bench in 2016 and 2017 — but left Pittsburgh without a playoff appearance the past three years and without a playoff-round victory since 2018.
Chris Kreider was traded on June 12. K’Andre Miller was traded on July 1. Earlier that same day, the Blueshirts signed free agent defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov out of Los Angeles for seven years at an AAV of $7 million to team with Adam Fox on the first pair. The organization has pretty much been in a holding pattern since then.

Suddenly, someone had hit a rewind button and everyone had been transported back seven months. It was early spring instead of late fall, it was broiling hot outside the arena walls and not freezing cold. Everyone was back at TD Garden. There were 19,156 frenzied fans on their feet begging for blood, poised for the kill.
