
What's open and closed in Waterloo region and Guelph from Christmas to the new year

For the next two weeks, some services around Waterloo region and Guelph will be closed or have altered hours because of the statutory holidays.
The Region of Waterloo says curbside waste collection will continue as usual on all days other than Christmas and New Year's, which both fall on a Thursday this year. If your garbage is normally collected on Thursday, for the next two weeks, it will be collected on Friday. On those Fridays, you will be allowed to set out double the amount of garbage for free. No garbage tags are needed.
As well, for two weeks after Dec. 25, the region will collect natural Christmas trees, which get put through a chipper for mulch.
Environment Canada is forecasting freezing rain and flurries for the week leading up to New Year's day, with temperature highs above the freezing point.
Warming spaces will remain open for those who need it on weekends and on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1 at the following locations and times: 150 Main Street in Cambridge from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and 150 Frederick Street in Kitchener from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
On those three nights, there will also be overnight warming spaces available at 298 Lawrence Avenue in Kitchener and 6 Cambridge Street in Cambridge.
All Region of Waterloo administrative offices will be closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
All Grand River Transit (GRT) buses will be running on a winter holiday service schedule from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4. MobilityPLUS buses will still be operating on Dec 25, Dec. 26 and Jan 1., but subscription trips will have to be rebooked in advance by calling 519-744-2241.

Region of Waterloo libraries are closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26, Jan. 1.
Museums:
City hall will be closed for in-person services from Dec. 25 to Dec. 28. It will also be closed on Jan. 1, Jan. 3 and Jan. 4.

Community centres across the city are open on modified hours, with most closed on federal holidays. You can check whether your local community centre is open on the Kitchener city website.
