West Indies vs India: Shai Hope on scoring hundred in 100th ODI with a stiff back – It was tough out there

WI vs IND, 2nd ODI: Shai Hope scored a century off 125 and helped the West Indies score 311 for 6 after opting to bat first at the Queen's Park Oval.

Right-hander Shai Hope, on Sunday, smashed a 125-ball century and became the 10th batter to score a century in his 100th ODI. He also became the fourth West Indies batter to accomplish the milestone after Gordon Greenidge, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan.

In the second ODI against India at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Hope scored 115 runs off 135 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. On the back of his knock, West Indies put up a decent score of 311 for six in 50 overs after electing to bat first.

Hope got out in the penultimate over while trying to smash Shardul Thakur for a boundary. After playing the masterful knock, Hope said that he didn’t find it easy out there since he was having problems with his back.

“Playing 100 games for West Indies and to score a hundred in my 100th ODI means a lot to me. My back was stiffening up a little and it was tough out there,” Hope was quoted as saying in the mid-innings break.

Hope said that he was desperate to convert his start and get a substantial score under his belt. The batter was of the opinion that the pitch showed signs of indifferent bounce.

“It's a decent score on this pitch. It was about getting in, I have not got a start like this in a while, so wanted to capitalise on that and put some runs. It's not what it is, it's a good score and some balls are keeping low, the spinners will come into play,” he added.
