BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal stated that it is keeping a close tab on the various ongoing cleaning projects in Mumbai with computer monitoring of the sludge removal work.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that it is taking various steps to ensure the citizens are not inconvenienced during the monsoon. BMC stated that it is keeping a close tab on the various ongoing cleaning projects in Mumbai with computer monitoring of the sludge removal work. BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that in the 24 wards of Mumbai, the nallas which are less than 6 meters wide have been cleaned 100 percent. “The entire process of removal of sludge from the nala and its disposal outside Mumbai is controlled by a computer system and the rounds, sludge and weight of each vehicle are recorded with photographs," Chahal said. The corporation faced a lot of flak after several areas in the city were waterlogged in the first monsoon rain of the year on June 9. Mumbai received more than 200 mm of rain in 20 places, 150 mm to 200 mm in 11 places, 100 mm to 150 mm in 13 places and less than 100 mm in 3 places. BMC officials assured that measures have been taken at 171 places in the city and suburbs to prevent waterlogging. They believe the work on other sites will be completed by the end of June.
