Water level in Mullaperiyar dam stood at 123.95 feet (the maximum permissible level is 142 feet) with an inflow of 533 cusecs and a discharge of 1,100 cusecs. In Vaigai dam, the level was 62.96 ft. (the maximum level is 71 ft.) with an inflow of 1,063 cusecs and a discharge of 2,569 cusecs. Combined storage in Periyar credit was 4,617.54 mcft. Veerapandi recorded a rainfall of 0.4 mm in the 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

The first jallikattu event in Tamil Nadu for the year 2026 was held at Thatchankurichi village of Pudukottai district on January 3, 2026 (Saturday) marking the commencement of the sporting season in the State.
