All visitors to Southwestern Ontario's largest hospital network will soon need to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The London Health Sciences Centre's chief medical officer Dr. Adam Dukelow said Monday that a proof-of-vaccination policy will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
There will be limited exceptions to the rule, he added during the biweekly briefing held in conjunction with the public health unit. The London Health Science Centre (LHSC) will share those details once the policy being developed with patient and family advisors is finalized.
"In the mean time, we wanted to signal to our community that we're heading in this direction," said Dukelow.
The requirement would also extend to care partners. The hospital has given all staff members until Oct. 22 to get both shots, or else risk being fired. Dukelow said as of last week, 92 per cent of staff are fully vaccinated, as is 99 per cent of physicians and medical residents.
The LHSC also reminded people who may be hospital visitors that it takes approximately five weeks from the first dose before being eligible for the second dose, and to consider the timeline if they have an upcoming visit to LHSC. Windsor Regional Hospital and Hotel Du Grace Health care require visitors to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-test.
