Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was arrested for drunk driving after a complaint from a resident in a Bandra complex on Sunday. The Mumbai cricketer played over 100 ODIs and 17 Tests for the country.

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli on Sunday was arrested for drunk driving as he hit a passing car at a Bandra society in Mumbai. He was taken into custody and investigated at the Bandra Police Station.

Vinod Kambli, 50, was arrested following a complaint from a resident of the said Bandra society. He was charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section r.w. 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act (driving under the influence of alcohol).

Kambli was released on bail later in the day, according to news agency PTI. Kambli also allegedly argued with the complex's watchman and some residents after the incident.

Kambli played 17 Tests and scored 1084 runs, including 4 hundreds. He played 104 ODIs for India, hitting 2477 runs, including 2 hundreds. The Mumbai batter made his India debut in 1991 and played his last match in October 2000.

A gifted cricketer, who grew up learning the art of the sport with Sachin Tendulkar, Kambli was bogged down by controversies over his conduct. The former cricketer has been active on social media, had expressed his willingness to work in the Indian Premier League.

Notably, in December last year, Kambli became a victim of cyber fraud. A fraudster impersonated a private bank’s executive on phone and withdrew Rs 1.14 lakh from his account on the pretext of updating his know your customer (KYC) details. The incident came to light on December 3 after Kambli approached the Bandra police and registered a complaint.
