Very impressed with Wriddhiman Saha: Gujarat Titans mentor Gary Kirsten heaps praise on dropped India keeper

Veteran India keeper Wriddhiman Saha scored 67 runs against Chennai Super Kings to take his tally of runs to 281 this season, from 8 matches. Gujarat Titans mentor Gary Kirsten heaped praises on the opener.

Gujarat Titans mentor Gary Kirsten on Sunday heaped praises on veteran Indian keeper Wriddhiman Saha, stating that he was very impressed with how the keeper-batter had approached his game in the current edition of the Indian Premier League. Wriddhiman Saha's 67 off 57 balls while opening the innings, setup a big win for the Titans, who now have confirmed their place in the top two in the group stage and are set to play Qualifier 1 scheduled on 24 May.

"We have been obviously very impressed (with Saha). It is great to have him in the team. He is a real professional. And he has got good experience in the IPL and in all (forms) of cricket," Kirsten said at the virtual-post-match press conference.

Like many players with the lack of power hitting ability in the T20 format have done, Saha maximised the power play against Chennai, helping GT put up 53 runs.

"He understands his game and plays really well in the power-play. For us, he was always an important asset to have when we needed him and he has come in and done really well," said the South African, who has also coached India in the past.

".I don't think there is any specific (thing) that we need to say to him (Saha) because he knows how to play the power-play really well. The most important thing is guys (players) play to their strengths and abilities. He is a great player of the short ball."

Gujarat Titans have been head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in the Indian Premier League. While earlier it was their lower order winning them crunch games, at the moment it seems that the top order has taken charge to provide the team with steady starts which build into big totals.

The win against Chennai was Gujarat's second in row as they loook to take a winning momentum into the playoffs of this season.
