Venkatesh Iyer a very bright prospect for India, we will be keeping an eye on him, says Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma said that while Venkatesh Iyer did not have too many opportunities to showcase himself during the three-match T20I series against New Zealand, he looks like a bright prospect and will be kept in the mix in future matches.

Venkatesh Iyer is a bright prospect for India and he will be kept in the setup for future series and matches, T20I captain Rohit Sharma has said. Venkatesh was selected for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand after his impressive performances in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL).

He provided useful runs in the second and third T20Is of the series and took a wicket as well in the latter. "The plan is to keep in the mix as much as we can. At the same time, we need to give him a role in the batting order. For his franchise he bats up the order, which might be difficult for him here, and so we have given him a role to bat at probably five, six or seven and see if he can do the job for us," said Rohit in the post-match press conference after the 3rd T20I on Sunday.
