Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripted history in the U19 World Cup by hitting the fastest hundred in the final of the tournament. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reached his century in 55 balls.
Young India batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripted history at the ICC U19 World Cup on Friday, February 6. Batting in the final of the tournament against England, Vaibhav smashed the fastest hundred in a U19 World Cup final, reaching his century in 55 balls.
With the feat, Vaibhav became only the third Indian batter to score a century in the final of the tournament, joining former India cricketers Manjot Kalra and Unmukt Chand. It was a scintillating knock from the 14-year-old left-hander, who began cautiously in the high-pressure summit clash.
Vaibhav’s whirlwind knock came to an end in the 26th over after a staggering 175 off just 80 balls. Trying to lap part-time seamer Manny Lumsden fine down the leg side, Vaibhav managed only a faint edge, the ball carrying through to wicketkeeper Ben Mayes. Mayes moved sharply to his right and made the take look far simpler than it was.
Vaibhav's 175 is also the highest ever individual score hit in the U19 World Cup final.

Batting in bouncy conditions, Vaibhav took his time early, seeing off a number of deliveries during the opening powerplay. He showed maturity beyond his years, choosing to assess both the conditions and the bowlers before shifting gears.
