The archrival Team USA and Canada men's hockey teams face off in the 2026 Winter Olympics gold medal game. Live updates, start time and how to watch:
MILAN — The U.S. men's hockey team is trying to end its gold medal drought on the anniversary of a key moment for the last USA team to win an Olympic championship.
The United States and Canada are meeting in the gold medal game of the 2026 Winter Olympics on Sunday, Feb. 22, the 46th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice." The United States upset the Soviet Union on that day in 1980 on a Mike Eruzione goal and won a gold medal with a victory against Finland in the next game. Eruzione has shared stories with both the men's and victorious women's team in Milan.
This game will be different because both the American and Canadian teams are loaded with NHL stars. But Canada is the USA's biggest hockey rival and has fared well in recent best-on-best championship matchups.
Canada boasts three of the top four scorers in the league in Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Macklin Celebrini. The USA team is equally talented with Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, the Tkachuk brothers and Quinn Hughes.
Captain Sidney Crosby, injured in the quarterfinal, won't play. He is not listed on the lineup sheet on the International Ice Hockey Federation website and on the lines posted by Hockey Canada on social media. USA forward Tage Thompson, hurt in the semifinal, is listed on the sheets.
