USD partners with IIT Gandhinagar for dual degrees, executive education, and online programs in India, expanding educational opportunities.
The University of San Diego (USD) and the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar have signed an MoU to offer double Master’s programmes, dual degrees at BTech and Master’s levels, and executive education programmes. This is in line with the USD’s plans to broaden its educational footprint in India through collaborations and launching new programmes.
The MoU with IIT Gandhinagar is currently focused on planning and exploration. The USD is exploring a campus in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, to provide dual degrees and hybrid learning, offering students the best of Indian and U.S. education. The next round of meetings regarding GIFT City is scheduled for May. “We are continuing to explore and refine our plans in close collaboration with stakeholders”, said Chell Roberts, Dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, University of San Diego
The USD has not yet finalised plans for specific degree programmes. They have, however, witnessed the demand for programmes related to Artificial Intelligence and its real-world applications, Cybersecurity, and Engineering Management. “These fields require intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, and a commitment to continuous learning — qualities we consistently see in Indian students”, said Mr. Roberts.
The USD is keen to identify a strong academic partner in each major region or state of India. Ideal partners would be those capable of co-teaching their primary degree programmes, which the USD is tailoring specifically for Indian students. These programs include: Applied Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity Engineering, Engineering Management and Leadership, Applied Data Science.
In partnership with AVENU Learning, the USD offers online postgraduate programmes tailored for Indian students. “We believe education is one of the most powerful tools for creating meaningful, lasting change — it can improve happiness, health, accessibility, and prosperity, impacting not only individuals but entire generations”, said Mr. Roberts.
