Udupi district police conduct school vehicle inspection drive, file 282 cases, collect ₹1.58 lakh in fines, urge safety compliance.
The Udupi district police, who conducted a massive drive to inspect school vehicles across the district on Thursday, filed 282 separate cases and collected a fine of ₹1.58 lakh from them.
An official release in Udupi stated that the drive was undertaken after receiving a tip-off about unsafe driving practices by drivers of these vehicles, including those from private institutions as well as those owned and operated by educational institutions. It was necessary to create awareness about safe driving and caution drivers about the implications of unsafe driving, the release said
The drive was undertaken in all police station limits, wherein five police Inspectors and 30 SIs participated, along with police personnel, from 7 a.m. to noon.
During the drive, as many as 930 school vehicles were checked. Of these cases, one involved drink-driving, 39 involved improper documents, 48 involved overloading, and 194 involved other categories of offences.
Concluding the drive, the district police have issued a strict caution to school managements, as well as owners of institution-owned and operated vehicles, to implement all safety measures as per the prevailing rules within one week. Failure to follow the rules would result in the seizure of the concerned vehicles, the police said.
