Tunnel collapse: Strong odour at a particular location of SLBC tunnel

Rescue teams intensify operations at Srisailam tunnel following strong odour, with two bodies recovered and six still missing.

Multiple rescue teams at the partially-collapsed Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Domalapenta, Nagarkurnool district, have stepped up operations at a particular location following a strong odour from there.

“The teams are carefully digging to rule out any possibility after the presence of strong odour at a particular place today,” a senior official monitoring the operation said on Wednesday.

“Efforts at desiltation, removal of muck and cutting metal are still on,” he said. Workers may find at least one more body by Thursday afternoon.

It may be mentioned here that on Tuesday, the body of Manoj Kumar, project engineer of the contracting agency, was found and brought out of the tunnel. Subsequently, it was transported in a freezer hearse van to his native place in Uttar Pradesh.

So far, two bodies have been recovered and efforts are on to recover the remaining six missing personnel.
