The president also ranted about the “problem with NATO.”
President Donald Trump bizarrely boasted that Europeans call him “daddy” during a speech at the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday.
The right-wing leader made the comments after telling the crowd that he’s been dealing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, both of whom he said he believes “want to make a deal” amid ongoing talks for a Russia-Ukraine peace deal.
“But they’ve got to get that war stopped, because too many people are dying, needlessly dying,” he continued. “Too many souls are being lost. It’s the only reason I’m interested in doing it.”
Claiming that he’s been “helping” Europe and NATO, Trump then veered off topic, saying that “they loved me” up until he tried to annex Greenland — except he incorrectly referred to Greenland as Iceland.
“They called me ‘Daddy,’ right? The last time? [A] very smart man said, ‘He’s our daddy. He’s running it,’” he added without naming the individual he was referring to. “I was, like, running it. I went from running it to being a terrible human being.”
