Trump Envoy Gets Cold Shoulder In Greenland As Key Event Pulls Invitation

Jeff Landry was disinvited from attending a sled dog race as the president continues to threaten the island.
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) is already having a rough time in his new role as President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Greenland after being disinvited from a key event.
The move comes as Trump grows increasingly belligerent with his threats to seize the island, currently a semi-autonomous Danish territory.
Landry, named to the role last month, had been invited to attend a sled dog race in March. Now, the Greenland Dog Sledding Association (KNQK) says the invitation, which was made by a private tourism group, has been withdrawn.
In a statement posted on Facebook, KNQK ― which had previously denounced Landry’s planned attendance at the event as “wholly inappropriate” ― called the withdrawal “reassuring.”
Trump wanted to “buy” Greenland during his first term, and has grown increasingly vocal about it during his second, saying last month that he planned to “do something in Greenland, whether they like it or not.”
