Trevor Reed, the former U.S. Marine who gained his freedom in a prisoner swap between the U.S. and Russia, arrived back in the U.S. early Thursday, his congressman, Texas Rep. August Pfluger, confirmed in a tweet:
Russia and the U.S. swapped prisoners Wednesday, securing Reed's release.
He was jailed in 2020 on assault charges stemming from a drunken night out in Moscow the previous year. Russia's Foreign Ministry said he was released after a "lengthy negotiation process" in exchange for Russian national Konstantin Yaroshenko, who has been jailed for more than a decade in the U.S. on drug smuggling charges.
